Iriver introduced their first product, the iMP-100, a portable CD player capable of decoding MP3 data files on CDs, on November, 2000. In the number one global market, iriver was quickly displaced by the introduction of Apple’s iPod. Founded in Seoul, capital of South Korea, iriver makes portable digital audio players, including USB mass storage, multiple codecs, FM tuners, recording capabilities, and upgradeable firmware. Microsoft helped test and market its latest product, the Clix, while specifying upgrades to its graphics engine and chips. Irivers initially dropped UMS support for several of their flash memory based players, in favor of Microsofts’s MTP. The company later released an official “iriver firmware updater” that allowed the users to switch between the MTP and UMS interfaces.

Iriver has developed four models for the portable multimedia player, the audio and video market. They are capable of playing several digital video formats, in addition to playing audio and displaying still images, with two models. The G10 is in progress right now, and will play digital music, video, and games. Its hard drives will be available in a 4GB or 8GB, while its size is less than half of Sony’s PSP.

The people ask me one question frequently: How can I upload music to my brand new mp3 player?

Well, for some of you guys and galls this is easy question. But out there are peoples, for which it is difficult to progress. Here I will try to explain this process – concisely.

Ok, so, if you buy your mp3 players from the store or online and the device is brand new, you must have a box. Where is your new player, of course and some other important things. Those things are:

Installation CD, USB cable, earphones, recharger and maybe one or two more extras.

Installation CD – this is important, because its necessary for connection between MP3 player and Computer. This CD will help your Operating System to recognize the device. If you have Windows 2003 and above, maybe there is no need to install anything, but you still must have a CD in the box – in any case. For Example, Windows XP in 90% of cases will recognize your player automatically, when you have connected it with USB cable. This CD is also known as Driver CD or User Manual CD.

You must turn on your mp3 player and plug the cable with it. Then plug the other jack in to the computer. Now your device is connected to your PC. Now, if Windows recognizes the player automatically, messages will appear, like – “New Hardware Device Found” and “Hardware Installed and Ready to Use”. In this case, when your mp3 player is installed, go to My Computer and look for the new icon, called “Removable Storage Device”, or the icon may also be named with the name of you player. For Example: SciFlux Mp3 Player Device or something like that.

If windows cant recognize your player, then you must to use the Driver CD. Put it in the CD or DVD Drive. Usually this CD`s are with “autorun” feature. Just wait, do nothing and after few seconds the installing application will appear. Look at the possibilities. You must see something like “Install” or “Install Drivers” or something different, but very similar to “Install” or “Drivers”. Follow the setup. Usually this process is short and easy, all you have to do is to click “Next” and “Finish” on the end. When you do this … your player is now installed. And again – go to My Computer and look for the new icon – this is your mp3 player.

So, you have installed you mp3 player already. Your Player Storage device will be located in My Computer, like I say before. All you have to do now is to click on it twice. When the digital player is brand new, there will be nothing – empty. So, go to your hard drives, locate your music files. When you choose the music files you like to upload to the mp3 player, just copy them. Select -> Copy. Then go to Your mp3 player icon in My Computer ( the new icon, remember?), double click it … and PASTE. Wait the copying process to complete and you are done. Now, switch OFF the USB cable and enjoy your music.

Little known travel secrets the airlines do not want you to know. At the end of this story you’ll discover a couple of travel secrets to make your flight more comfy. The airlines are jam packing every flight in an effort to stay in the red. Yuck! I have decided recently that I really don’t enjoy flying because of just that!

My last flight from Detroit to Orlando (about 2.5 hours) found me stuck in the very last seat by the window. Having a slight case of claustrophobia, that was not my choice seat. I’m also a frugal traveler so I really dislike having to pay extra for an aisle seat or the coveted Exit row seats.

I sat down in that last seat on the plane and concentrated on the activity outside my window to ward off my claustrophobia. Hoping to get someone next to me that was not an armrest hog, had taken a bath recently and didn’t feel the need to have their tray down during the entire trip. Not too much to ask for or so I thought. I was pleasantly surprised when a 10 year old girl and her mother became my travel companions. My own daughter is 9 yrs old, so I tried to make conversation with the little girl. After two attempts to communicate, her mother explained they were from Norway and her daughter did not speak English.

During this brief exchange a sour smell kept drifting around my nose. Sniffing repeatedly, I felt like a hound dog, I realized it was coming from this mother and daughter. Just as I determined the source of the sour smell, I saw lice eggs in the little girl’s hair. Having experience with lice and my daughter, I know it has nothing to do with regular bathing. (My daughter was infected at the local library using the computer headphones and then again at our local YMCA using the rock climbing helmet.) Lice is nasty, there’s no question about it. It’s also very contagious. After 2.5 hours of sour smelling, lice infected travel, I was determined to do something about it on my return flight.

Needless to say, on my return flight, I made sure I had an aisle seat. I arrived at the airport well in advance of my flight. So early, that during check in I was not assigned a seat, but was told to approach the boarding gate attendant for my seat assignment. I had several hours prior to my flight, so I found a work station and set up my laptop. About 30 minutes prior to boarding, I arrived at the appropriate gate. The gate attendants were calling passenger names in order to assign seats and my name was called. I approached the counter and asked for an aisle seat. Not only did I get an aisle, I was awarded an exit row seat as well! Since most passengers don’t want to pay the up charge for an aisle or exit row seat, there were several available. I happen to stumble upon this little travel secret, but you can be sure I’ll try it again next time I travel.

Another little known airline travel secret is to ask to bump up to first class at the boarding gate. Some airlines have a small $40 fee to do so. I may be frugal but I know a money saving travel opportunity when I see it. I haven’t tried this yet, but certainly plan to do so at my first opportunity.
